Top tips for travelling with cancer
If you are travelling with a medical condition such as cancer, then do consult with your doctor before you book anything. They can advise you on whether you’re fit to travel, answer any of your concerns and give you any reassurance you may need.
Your GP may suggest you get a vaccination, depending on where you’re planning to visit. Some cancer treatments can weaken the immune system so your doctor may advise that you don’t have a live vaccination, as this could increase the chance of infections and instead opt for an inactive vaccination.
Make sure you pack your medication in your hand luggage, and in it’s original packaging. Of course, we hope no one’s luggage gets lost or stolen, but unfortunately it does sometimes happen and the last thing you want is for all your medication to be in there. Pack enough medication for your trip (and a little bit extra) and have it on your person or in your hand luggage at all times.
Let your airline know about any special circumstances including your medical condition. They can be very accommodating and may let you board early to avoid the rush. It’s always handy to have a note from your GP just letting you know that you are all good to travel.
